APOE and Depression: Cognitive Consequences Lead Investigator: Madison Lenox Institution : Nova Southeastern University E-Mail : madisonblenox@gmail.com Proposal ID : 1205 Proposal Description: The goals of our proposed research include exploring the APOE genotype and its relationship with cognition, subjective memory complaints, and depression in older adults. Our tentative hypothesis is that those with the presence of APOE epsilon4 allele will endorse increased memory complaints and depressive symptoms. We hope this research informs psychologists and neuropsychologists about the importance of assessing for depression in the presence of APOE epsilon4 allele and subjective memory complaints. Further, we hope to translate the current findings to improve patient care in order to assess for and treat psychiatric disorders, specifically depression, to possibly decrease the risk of cognitive impairment and dementias in older adults with a higher prevalence of epsilon4.
